Counting Acorns

I love when my son comes up with learning activities on his own. He lined up acorns in a row and started counting them this morning.

Baby's 1st Sensory Bottle

Today I made my first sensory toy for my baby girl! Here is a simple sensory bottle using a Voss plastic water bottle and sequins. Just shake it up and watch the sequins spin like a tornado! The bottle thrilled her little mind and helped me out at dinner time. These bottles are inexpensive and very simple to create. Stay tuned for new sensory bottle ideas!

Sand & Sequin Digger Truck Tray

Here is a fun sensory experience for kids who love to dig in the sand. My son has been enjoying this activity for weeks now. I mixed sand and sequins in a small tray and gathered all of our diggers. My son just loves driving, digging, and dumping over and over with his trucks in this tray. So much fun! Great idea for a rainy day activity.

DIY Number Activity - Counting & Ordering Numbers 1-15

Here is another great learning activity using those DIY number blocks I featured in a previous blog post. (Build a number tower : http://www.fortheloveoflearningblog.blogspot.com/2013/05/number-tower-learn-to-count-order.html )

This time, I made 5 more blocks to teach my son how to count up to 15 while placing the blocks in numerical order. I used a plastic egg tray from the dollar store and put a tupperware bowl in the center. I filled the center bowl with blocks numbered 1-15 for my son to place in numerical around the tray. The numbers are foam stickers that easily adhere to the wooden blocks. He had a great time playing and learning with this activity. He loved the way the numbers looked when we were finished!
My son made a connection when he got to the number fourteen.
He noticed that the number fourteen had a four in it and he was amazed!

All done!

Yay! So happy and proud of his work!

DIY ABC Block Activity

Here is a fun activity using ABC blocks. (I featured these blocks in an earlier post. I simply added alphabet stickers to interlocking mega blocks.) In this activity, I used a cereal container that I purchased from the dollar store and filled it with lettered blocks A-Z. My son sticks his hand into the container and picks out a letter, says its name, then connects the blocks together.

An extension to this activity would be putting the letters in ABC order. Also, older children can try to figure out what words can be made with the chosen letters. This activity can be done with any ABC blocks of course, but it is so much fun to make your own with children. Here is a link to the DIY ABC blocks blog post: http://www.fortheloveoflearningblog.blogspot.com/2013/05/diy-alphabet-blocks-hands-on-abc.html

A Pool Noodle & A Rock

This is a fun rainy day activity. I stuck a pool noodle in the couch cushion vertically and gave my son a rock. He had a blast dropping the rock into the noodle and rushing down to see the rock roll out. He did this over and over and over again!

Spray Bottle Play

Here is my toddler son helping me water the trees and plants outside. Who knew that a spray bottle could be so much fun? I purchased one on clearance at TJ Maxx and my son loves using it outside.
